Science, Technology and Innovation Policy in the Obama Administration

At this critical time of national debate about the future role of science and technology in our country’s economic and educational leadership, such a talk should be of great interest to all of us. Here to speak out is Dr. John Holdren, President Obama’s assistant for science and technology, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The talk is on Tuesday, April 19 at 8 p.m. in Beckman Auditorium on the Caltech campus and is open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required. It is free and on a first come, first served basis.

In a question-and-answer session after his speech, Holdren will be accompanied by renowned scientist and Nobel Laureate Dr. Ahmed Zewail, professor of chemistry and physics at Caltech. Dr. Zewail is a member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Prior to joining the Obama administration, Dr. Holdren was a professor of environmental policy and director of the Program on Science, Technology and Public Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, as well as a professor in Harvard's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and director of the independent, nonprofit Woods Hole Research Center.

In the early 1970s, Dr. Holdren was a member of the Caltech community as a senior research fellow in the Environmental Quality Laboratory.
