Abstract:

Operational perspectives on the use of telepresence to support planetary exploration will be presented. Based on experiences gained training for spaceflight and supporting operations onboard the International Space Station, considerations for the implementation of robotically enhanced exploration will be discussed in the context of several operational environments: piloting jet aircraft; conducting routine operations onboard the International Space Station, and the execution of extravehicular activity (EVA). Discussions will explore several facets of operational latency, as well as real-time decision making and risk management.


Speaker's Biography:

Tyler N. “Nick” Hague (Col, U.S. Air Force) was selected by NASA in 2013. The Kansas native earned a Bachelor of Science in Astronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy in 1998, and a Master of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000. In 2009, Hague was selected for the Air Force Fellows program in Washington, D.C. Hague completed astronaut candidate training in July 2015, and is now qualified for a future spaceflight assignment. He is currently serving in the International Space Station Operations branch.
