Alamgir Hossan

Alamgir Hossan is a postdoctoral fellow in the microwave instrument science group (386G) at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). His current research focuses on algorithm development for retrieving polar ice sheet surface and subsurface liquid water profiles using multifrequency microwave radiometers. By measuring the liquid water amounts and monitoring their dynamic physical processes in the ice sheets and ice shelves, Alamgir aims to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of polar ice sheet response to climate change and associated global sea-level rise.

Prior to joining JPL, Alamgir pursued his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where his research centered around active and passive microwave remote sensing of winds, clouds, and precipitation. He utilized a combination of satellite observations, reanalysis data, numerical models, and advanced techniques to develop inter-calibration methods for satellite data, geophysical models, retrieval algorithms, and data records.
