Dr. Payandeh is a physical oceanographer with an interest in ocean remote sensing, numerical modeling, and observational oceanography. He completed his postdoctoral work at the Marine Science Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara, focusing on submesoscale eddies in the Southern California Bight using High-Frequency Radars. He earned his PhD in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences from Louisiana State University, where he studied relative sea level rise in shallow Mississippi River estuaries using numerical models, observations, and remote sensing data. In his free time, Dr. Payandeh enjoys surfing, diving, and playing Setar. Additionally, he shares his passion for science and the environment through his podcast, "Zharfa" (meaning depth in Persian), where he makes episodes on topics ranging from the environment and the ocean to broader issues concerning our planet and even the mysteries of space.
