Dr. Antoine Soloy

Dr. Soloy is an environmental scientist specializing in coastal hydro- and morpho-dynamics. Throughout his research experience, Dr. Soloy has explored various topics such as hydrodynamic modeling, satellite altimetry, beach dynamics, and the assessment of remote sensing capabilities in estuaries worldwide.

Holding a doctorate in Coastal Science from the University of Rouen Normandy, Dr. Soloy's research has centered on the dynamics of pebble beaches along the Normandy coast. This research addressed a less-explored area compared to sandy systems and involved the development of novel remote sensing methods and numerical simulations. Dr. Soloy observed and modeled the coastal dynamics of Normandy, combining field measurements with UAV photogrammetry and the application of deep learning algorithms for shoreline identification and sediment mapping.

At JPL, Dr. Soloy is a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on hydrodynamic modeling in the Mississippi Delta, in the framework of the Delta-X Mission. This work involves the setting up of numerical models and high-performance computing capabilities combined with remotely sensed data of various sources to understand the hydrodynamics of this highly complex region. This research aims at providing insights into the expected evolution of the Mississippi Delta over the course of the next century, and tools to investigate other coastal environments facing similar challenges around the globe with the help of the recently launched SWOT satellite.
