Joana Voigt

Joana Voigt is a Postdoctoral Researcher studying aqueous alteration processes and effusive volcanism on Earth and Mars.

Joana holds two Masters Degrees, in geological science and planetary science from the Free University in Berlin and the University of Arizona, and a PhD in planetary sciences from the University of Arizona.

During her graduate studies, Joana studied effusive eruption products on Earth, Mars, the Moon, as well as on icy satellites. Her research aims at gaining a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between eruption dynamics of lava flow-fields and the final lava morphologies of effusive eruptions by using a combination of remote sensing techniques and instruments, unoccupied aircraft systems (UAS), as well as field observations.

Now as a Postdoctoral Researcher Joana continues to study the surface of Mars and explores aqueous alteration processes by using remote sensing data. Joana is the Deputy Principal Investigator for NASA’s funded PSTAR project called Rover–Aerial Vehicle Exploration Network (RAVEN). RAVEN uses a powerful combination of a rover and drone operating in a Martian analog site to demonstrate and improve the technology and science operation to inform next generation planetary science missions.
